Professor Zi-Qiang Zhu
Head of the Electrical Machines and Drives Research Group
University of Sheffield, UK Fellow IEEE

Electrical Machines and Power Electronics for Wind Power Generation Application.
In this plenary presentation, Professor Zhu will overview the world-wide wind power market and alternative electric machines for wind power generation, including double-fed induction generators, electrically excited synchronous generators, permanent magnet generators, etc. with/without mechanical gears, as well as some novel machine topologies, such as dual rotor permanent magnet machines and magnetically geared permanent magnet machines.

He will also overview various power electronic converters for low and medium voltage applications, including conventional back-to-back converters, multi-level flying-capacitor converters, neutral point clamped converters, Cascaded H-bridge converters etc.
Their relative merits and demerits will be highlighted and compared.
